wingsthatdraggedTimeline: Taken shortly after Maleficent tries to revoke the curse but is unable to do so.
When Maleficent was young she was considered to be happy and carefree. She always knew how to have a good time and involved the others around her. She was very trusting and a bit naive due to the fact she was so trusting. She also always wanted to help whether it was the people of her land or the forest itself. Her curiosity of the world often got the better of her as it led her to wanting to understand the young boy named Stefan that had trespassed into her land. She had also forgiven him for trying to take a jewel and forgiven him for the many misdeeds he had done later in life. She also taught the young boy that iron was a weakness. Later he would use the knowledge against her. She did discover that when wrapped in iron she was disorientated and had a hard time using her magic or to move.
When Maleficent had her wings stolen, she became vengeful. She no longer sought the comfort of others and kept to herself. She became cold and disconnected with those around her and was unforgiving. She became manipulative in her plans for revenge and was blind as her need for revenge became her life.
Without her wings she was unable to find a way to identify with herself. She had such pride in them and said that they were strong and never faltered. She described them to be large and how they had dragged behind her when she did walk. The Moores had saw them as a symbol of power and because she was the biggest of the fair folk she was their protector. Only without her wings she had to rely on a staff to help her walk and she used a raven to be her wings, eyes, and ears. The raven was known as Diaval and eventually became her only companion as he would often provide advice and insight and saw things differently than she did. He became the one person she could confide in. He was also not afraid to state his mind, but was often careful of how he presented things knowing how Maleficent would react. On a rare occasion he would be able to get her to understand and change her mind.
Aurora became the other person she came to trust and love. Only at first she didn't realize it. She had used Aurora against the young man in revenge. Maleficent found Aurora confusing as she didn't understand why as a child that she trusted her. Yet, the more time she spent around Aurora trying to understand her she found herself opening up more and was smiling and laughing.
